SLD 11/07 - CEPU FLOOD ASSISTANCE

CEPU FLOOD ASSISTANCE
Floods in Queensland, NSW and now Victoria are having a major impact on a number of regional towns and cities, and the Victorian T&S Branch Committee of Management has decided to initiate a "Flood Relief Fund" for flood affected CEPU members, on a national basis. Other CEPU state branches are currently considering similar motions of support This small fund (based on $1 a member) will hopefully be expanded across Australia, and be administered under the auspices of the Divisional President and Divisional Secretary.

We have also been asked to advertise for some volunteers to staff the ACTU Call Centre phones, to help with matching emergency accommodation offers to those affected.

Please see the request reprinted below, and contact the ACTU if you have some time available.
¬ Please note the ACTU Call Centre is located in Queen St Melbourne.

“As part of the relief effort for people affected by the floods, a website has been established to help people find emergency accommodation. Thousands of places have been made available by hotels, motels and private homes.

We have been asked to assist the process of matching people with accommodation. As a result the ACTU has made available several phones in our call centre to help handle the enormous numbers of calls for assistance.

What we need are volunteers to man the phones for a few hours a day.

The process is easy – a caller gives the volunteer their accommodation requirements, the volunteer checks the website, matches them up and gives contact details to the caller who then takes it all from there. It has been up and running successfully for a few days now and the need has gone way beyond the original expectations.

If you could spare any staff for a couple of hours, or pass this onto your staff, family and friends who might be willing to give some of their spare time it would be greatly appreciated.

For those able to help out please call in on 1300 365 205 to book spots. Alternatively email ccadmin@actu.org.au including the day/days they can assist and the start and finish times.”

Many thanks for your assistance
